Endovenous Laser Ablation Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLT/ELVeS/EVL)

Vein Specialty Medical Clinic is proud to be the first, and still the only clinic in the Bay Area as of September 2022, to offer Radial Laser endovenous vein ablation in place of 20+ year-old method of linear laser ablation. This scar free treatment is performed in the office and without the need for general anesthesia. Patient discomfort after treatment is very minimal, allowing patients to resume sports activities the same day, while patient discomfort is a major concern with linear laser ablation consisting of severe pain for at least 10 days. Furthermore, in pour experience with both laser systems, radial laser has been far more effective with near 100% success rate. This procedure consists of insertion of a thin laser fiber optic catheter in the varicose vein and positioning the catheter tip near the region of the incompetent valve. Then, while pulling out the fiber optic catheter, laser is delivered to the lumen of the varicose vein. Results of this form of treatment have been very promising. This treatment modality is considered to be a major breakthrough in phlebology that we have been awaiting. Please view the computer animation for Radial laser Vein Ablation on this page.

Spider veins are small, irregular, purplish or bluish unsightly vessels. Slightly larger and greenish veins, always feed spider veins. Achieving good results depends on treatment of spider and feeder veins.

Varicose veins always result from abnormal flow of blood in opposite the normal direction. In such cases, there is an incompetence of the one way barriers (valves) between the deep and superficial leg vein systems, leading to abnormal flow of blood from the larger deep veins into the superficial smaller veins and creation of bulging varicose veins that often have a zigzag pattern and cause a variety of symptoms.
